How to prepare Chaat in your home?
Chaat is simply snacks. Indian chats are immensely popular in South Asia. You can see Chaats in road-side tracks, stalls, and now even in food courts of malls.
The Chat specialties vary from city to city.
Chat from Lucknow, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Mathura are very popular throughout India.
The various types of chats are “Aloo chat, Aloo tikki, Bedmi, Bhalla/aloo tikki, Bhelpuri, Ragda Patties, Cheela, Dahi puri, Dahi vada, Kachori- or Kachauri, Mangode, Pakora, Panipuri/gol gappa, Masalapuri, Chana , Papri chat, Samosa, Sevpuri, Pav bhaji, Pav vada, Dahi bhallay ki chaat, Beetroot & potato chat, Paneer puri”.
Chaats are all based on fried dough, with various other ingredients. The original chaat is a mixture of potato pieces, crisp fried bread dahi vada or dahi bhalla, gram or chickpeas and tangy-salty spices, with sour home-made Indian chilly and saunth (dried ginger and tamarind sauce), fresh green coriander leaves and yogurt for garnish, but other popular variants included aloo tikkis or samosa (garnished with onion, coriander, hot spices and a dash of curd), bhel puri, dahi puri, panipuri, dahi vada, papri chaat, and sev puri.
Dried peas( soaked for 7-10 hrs) – 250 gms
Chopped onion – 2
Chopped tomato – 2
Chopped green chili – 2-3
Chopped ginger – 1 tbsp
Chopped coconut – 25 gm
Roasted masala powder ( Cumin seeds,
Coriander seeds, red chili, whole black pepper
Roast and grind) – 2 tbsp
Chaat masala powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Red chili powder – ½ tsp
Salt – to taste
Tamarind juice – 2 tbsp
Curd – 4 tbsp
Any mixture – 100 gm
Chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
Water – 2 glass
- Cooked peas in the pressure cooker add 2 glass of water add turmeric powder and salt. Cover the cooker and boil it till 3 whistles. Take out all the boiled peas in a bowl.
- Take an another bowl and take out a small portion of boiled peas. Add 2 tbsp curd over the boiled peas. Add Chopped onion, tomato add chopped green chili, add finely chopped ginger. Sprinkle chaat masala powder. Sprinkle red chili powder(as per your taste) add salt. Sprinkle roasted garam masala powder. Add any mixture, chopped coriander leaves, chopped coconut, add tamarind juice. Tasty chaat is ready to serve.
